      Hello Professor,

I have been going through the basics lessons, and particularly in the rhythm section I’m finding that the limiting factor in learning the pieces isn’t the rhythm but rather the chord changes. I have been playing classical guitar for over a year now so I have some experience in changing chords and fingers. However, the chords in the rhythm section are very challenging. I have no issue hearing and mimicking the rhythms that you play. Do you have any suggestions? Are the songs there meant to be played with perfect chord changes before moving onto the beginner songs that you have listed? Or is it more important to be able to understand the rhythms and move on? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
      Boris Umanov

      Hello Boris,
Yes, having a clear sound when changing chords is very important. Because as you progress through the lessons, in addition to chord changes, you will have to deal with solo parts and certain passages where we use quick chord changes to support the melody, as in Garota de Ipanema for example.

I would recommend that you watch the lesson “How to Practice Chord Changes”

Also, it’s important to play the songs slow enough so that you can comfortably make chord changes. Once you are able to play them slowly, you can start to increase the tempo gradually. In other words, don’t rush and give your brain time to memorize the movements. Looking for guide and pivet fingers is imortant as well.

      Best!

Thank you Professor for the feedback! I will work on that Chord Change lesson and report back.
